This philosophy was the foundation for Thaumatrope, a concept watch that won the Red Dot Design Concept Award in 2014.

Inspired by the thaumatrope, a simple yet mesmerizing optical illusion, Thaumatrope brings this phenomenon of movement and perception into the realm of timekeeping. In a traditional thaumatrope, two images combine through motion; in the Thaumatrope watch, this concept comes to life through the rotating box.

The watch’s crown engages an axis, allowing the wearer to adjust the hands’ position simply by twirling the box. As the hands move within, time itself becomes an illusion, shifting in ways that feel almost magical, yet grounded in the physics of the phi phenomenon and persistence of vision.
